Homeowner Steve Fisher’s Singapore bungalow is impressive above ground. Boasting a saltwater pool, an open-air floor plan, and enough greenery to make Tarzan jealous, this island oasis is beautiful and luxurious. However, it’s what’s happening underground at his tropical retreat that makes this home a real architectural marvel.

Instead of a basement, he has an underwater entertainment room! All of its walls are wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows and, according to Fisher, constitute some of the largest private installations in the world. These panoramic windows are constructed of acrylic plastic, not glass, and are 4 and 1/2 inches thick. What’s even more impressive: they hold back a staggering half a million pounds of water!

So what does a subterranean room like this cost? Fisher spent more than a million dollars on this room alone, never mind the rest of his bungalow.
According to Thrillist, the Manta Room off of Zanzibar’s Pemba Island is Africa’s first underwater hotel room. You can also pay for similar experiences at Sweden’s Utter Inn and Dubai’s Hydropolis resort. However, while luxury underwater experiences appear to be common commercial attractions, we don’t know of many private residences boasting this seriously cool feature.
It’s not every day you get a basement with great natural light, so we’re green with envy over Steve Fisher’s underwater sanctuary! Would you ever want something like this in your home? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below and make sure to share if you found it as cool as we did!
