Acts of compassion come in many different forms, like the time a young boy held an umbrella over an elderly gentleman as he crossed the street in the midst of an unexpected downpour. When someone caught the moment on video, he just had to share it with the world.
Similarly, a Reddit user was so touched last year by the sight of a neighborhood boy escorting a blind deer around his suburban Chicago neighborhood in search of food, he was moved to share it.

The Reddit user explained that the 10-year-old boy had been walking with the deer for several days before he headed off to school, and the he had not named her or tried to “claim her as a pet or anything like that.” He was just one of several people in the neighborhood who took a special interest in her welfare, knowing that without help, a blind deer’s chances of survival were slim.
“The little boy was by far the sweetest example of helping and caring. He showed a lot of love and respect and my wife and I are going to talk to his mom about a way she would want to see his act of kindness rewarded,” he wrote. “We are going to frame this photo for them and offer to take him to the local wildlife preserve whenever he wants to go.”
Others loved the idea and praised the boy’s compassion:

In a follow-up post, the poster wrote that a rescue group that’s licensed to treat and shelter wild animals picked up the deer and brought her back to their sanctuary.
In a world filled with so many competing demands on our time, it’s nice to hear about a neighborhood that pulls together to ensure this deer’s safety, especially one little boy who went above and beyond!
