Single father Stuart Chivits became suspicious when he learned from school that his 10-year-old son Akian, who has autism, had recently exhibited violent behavior.
Stewart knows his son well, he’s quiet and calm most of the time, so he didn’t understand why his son was behaving like this, so he decided to take matters into his own hands and find out the truth.
After trying to get answers from the principal and teachers, Stewart felt there was something hidden from him. Worried about his son, he did something some considered controversial, putting Stewart a tape recorder in his son’s pocket before leaving for school. As a father, he said he found the only way to find out what was really going on with his son.
What he discovered after replaying the recording left him in shock. 6 hours of inappropriate and disgusting confrontations were recorded.
The teacher who was clear about Akyan’s condition bullied the young boy, insulted him in class and even called him “illegitimate” in front of his classmates.
Stewart couldn’t stand the disgusting situation he had put his child in any longer, so he uploaded a YouTube video sharing the recording with the public. While some viewers criticized him for secretly taping teachers, others praised him for what he did saying any parent worried about their child would do the same.
Now the good dad is doing his best to raise awareness about bullying and help stop it.
The school’s principal, Dr. Maureen Roche, said in a statement posted online that the district responded in the right way:
She said: “I want to assure our parents that the people who were heard in the recording raising their voices and speaking inappropriately to children no longer work in the area and did not return shortly after we received the recording.”
