After her 4-year-old daughter complained the fries at Wendy’s “tasted funny and were ‘yucky,'” one Ohio mother was shocked to learn what was inside.
“So I told her to spit it in my hand, [and] I just kind of reached my arm back,” Dezeray Risner said, WHIO reports. “She did and when I looked at it, you could see it. It was chewed up with the french fries. There was the weed in there, the wrap that it goes in or whatever. I freaked out.”
Risner, who was driving away from the restaurant after having just picked up a meal, immediately called Wendy’s to report the incident before heading to the police.
“So I call Wendy’s and ask to speak to the Manager,” Risner posted on her Facebook page. ‘”Megan” answers and says she’s the manager. After telling her what I found, she laughed and told me to ‘bring it in and we can determine if it needs to be taken to the general manager.’ Are you kidding me?! I’ve filed a report with the police department. I’m going to the top with this!!”
Officials confirmed that the fries contained marijuana, but could not find traces of the drug anywhere at the actual restaurant. Police say they have no suspects at this time.
Video footage also did not capture the meal preparation, adding further difficulty to the investigation.
“I shouldn’t have to check my child’s food for drugs,” an upset Risner said. “That wasn’t professional at all. … My biggest issue right now is to acknowledge it. Apologize. And if it has to go farther, than it will go farther, but that’s not my concern right now.”
“Please know all of our customers as well as the quality and integrity of our food are a top priority at Wendy’s and we are taking this very seriously,” reads a statement released by Wendy’s. “We are currently conducting a thorough internal investigation and the Human Resource and Legal departments are both fully cooperating with police in their investigation. We will get to the bottom of this issue as soon as possible. It is as important to us as it is to the community,”
