With all the dance crazes that come and go, the Lindy Hop has survived the years and is still incredible to watch today. The way these athletic dancers dominate the floor with their skills is simply astounding. This footage is from the International Lindy Hop Championships back in 2013, but the year shouldn’t matter because their talent is truly timeless!
The top Lindy Hoppers from around the globe met in Washington, D.C. last year to compete in this nostalgic event. Each couple would take turns owning the floor with an impressive routine. The pairs would strut their stuff to live music performed by Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five. Everybody in this packed house was treated to an incredible showcase of talent.
What is the ‘Lindy Hop’? It’s an American dance that started in the streets of Harlem, New York back in the 1920’s and 30’s. It was popular during the jazz age, but was also a top craze during the Swing era. It incorporates a variety of dances including: tap, the Charleston, jazz and breakaway. Also, it can be performed either alone or with a partner.
