If you suffer from “gephyrophobia” or fear of bridges, then you shouldn’t try to cross Japan’s Eshima Ohashi Bridge.

Connecting the cities of Sakaiminato and Matsue, this roller coaster bridge shoots straight to the clouds, and eventually completely drops downwards, much like a roller coaster. It was built this way to allow fishing boats to freely pass underneath.

Stretching about a mile long, this bridge is not as steep as you think, rather it’s an optical illusion. Despite its gravity-defying architecture, vehicles travel safely across the bride.
