WASHINGTON — President Trump announced Monday evening on Truth Social that Israel and Iran have reached an agreement in principle for a cease-fire, bringing an end to what he referred to as “the 12 Day War.”
“Congratulations to everyone! Israel and Iran have fully agreed to a complete and total cease-fire, set to begin in approximately six hours—once both sides have completed their ongoing final operations,” Trump wrote. “The cease-fire will last for 12 hours, after which the war will officially be considered over.”
Trump added that Iran will initiate the cease-fire, followed by Israel at the 12-hour mark. “After 24 hours, the official end to the 12 Day War will be celebrated globally. During the cease-fire periods, each side is expected to remain peaceful and respectful,” he said.
The conflict began on June 13 with Israeli airstrikes targeting Iran’s key nuclear facilities, accompanied by a series of assassinations targeting scientists, hardline nuclear negotiators, and military leaders.
While Israel quickly gained air superiority over Iranian skies, it was unable to completely demolish the Fordow nuclear enrichment facility using U.S.-supplied 2,000-pound bombs. This prompted President Trump to authorize American B-2 bombers to deploy 14 “bunker buster” bombs, each weighing 30,000 pounds, on the site.
Although a damage assessment is still underway, the president has maintained that all three targeted facilities inside Iran were “totally destroyed.”
