According to CTV News, Grzelak-Schultz had a few drinks at the bar the night before. Rather than take the opportunity and drive home, she chooses to find another way to get home safely, leaving her car parked in the parking lot.

When Grzelak-Schultz opened the note when she picked up her car the next day, instead of a parking ticket, she found a gift voucher and a nice letter written by the pub manager.

The note was addressed to “Original Joe’s Sherwood Park Guest” and was from Original Joe’s managing partner, Jay McClain. he wrote:

“I just wanted to thank you for leaving your car parked overnight.”

“I don’t know if you drank alcohol in our restaurant or not, but we wanted to thank you for not drinking and driving.”

Attached to the bill was a voucher worth a pound of homemade chicken wings.

“Please accept this as a thank you for being in charge. Life is precious, have a great weekend.”

Grzelak-Schultz told the publication that she was sure the note was either a ticket or a complaint about her car being parked overnight in the parking lot. I was delighted and surprised that the restaurant manager did his best to acknowledge his judgement.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drivers under the influence of alcohol were responsible for more than 10,000 deaths in the United States in 2016 alone. While you can avoid a wreck by driving drunk, you could end up in jail if you’re arrested and given a field sobriety test. Instead of becoming a statistician, always play it safe – never drink and drive. If you plan to drink, always make a plan in advance of how you will get home.

Some examples are:

organize a taxi or car service,
Arrange for a sober family member or friend to pick you up,
choose a specific driver from your group of friends,
Mark a public transport route in advance to return home.
Also, if you see someone else trying to get behind the wheel after drinking, offer them a ride (if you’re sober) or try to find a replacement. Ask others for help if needed! If you see a drunk driver on the road or driving intermittently, call your local police.

She decided to share the man’s good deed on Facebook.
