It’s hard to wrap your head around how many dogs are homeless—or how many are abandoned each year around the world. What’s especially tragic is that many people forget that, because they’re domestic animals, they can no longer survive without human care.

So whenever you see a dog in need, it’s important to do whatever you can to help. Of course, these situations must be handled delicately. In some cases, the dogs may be so traumatized that they’re afraid of being rescued; sometimes saving them is easier said than done.

That was certainly the case with a stray named Arnie, who was spotted at a gas station about 40 miles from Athens, Greece. Luckily, some kindhearted folks knew exactly what to do with him.

A kind woman known only as “E” was at a highway gas station about 40 miles from Athens, Greece when she noticed this stray dog named Arnie.

He would constantly scratch himself because of a dermatological condition; still, he was so scared that he refused to approach E for help.
