Adopting a pet not only changes the life of the rescued animal…it also has a profound effect on the owner. Photographer Theron Humphrey spent an entire year traveling all over the United States capturing the happy endings of shelter animals and their owners for a series called “Why We Rescue”.
Eager to break harmful stereotypes, Humphrey’s series dispels myths that shelter pets have poor health and behavior problems and instead shows the shelter animals for the loving, devoted companions that they really are. The series is captivating and heartwarming, showcasing each animal’s bond with the owner that gave them a home.
On the Why We Rescue website, you can learn the stories of each person in the series that decided to adopt an animal. Some stories are very personal and sweet, revealing information about how they met their current beloved pet.
Showcasing photos of not only the animals’ owners, Humphrey captures their home and environment away from the shelter. It’s a touching, intimate series that will make you want to adopt a shelter animal as soon as you’re done looking at these beautiful photos!
