Did the Digital Mask Slip?
A Chinese livestreamer reportedly lost thousands of followers after a beauty filter glitch exposed her real face, according to viral social media posts.
However, neither the follower drop nor the so-called “loss of face” has been independently confirmed.
The Filter Slip That Shocked Followers
Viral clips circulating on Threads, TikTok, and other platforms show an unnamed Chinese beauty influencer mid-video when a beauty filter glitch exposes her true face.
In the footage, she is seen primping for the camera when the digital enhancement suddenly disappears, revealing a mature face with a warm complexion. Seconds later, the filter returns, presenting a flawless, pale, perfectly symmetrical visage.
By that point, the damage was reportedly done. Social media reports claim the influencer lost 140,000 followers after the brief glimpse behind the virtual curtain.
The glitch lasted just a few seconds, but it reportedly cost the influencer 140,000 followers.
Still, many viewers rushed to her defense, with some saying they preferred the unfiltered look.
“I think she’s so much prettier without the filter,” one fan commented. “The filter looks lifeless.”
Viewers Criticize Unrealistic Beauty Standards
The brief filter glitch sparked a wave of discussion about unrealistic beauty standards in the digital age.
“She’s literally so beautiful I can’t, I’m so mad for her lmfao,” one viewer joked, criticizing the digital mask. Another commented on the pressures of allegedly unattainable “East Asian beauty standards.”
While it’s unclear whether the influencer’s facial mishap is genuine, this isn’t the first time a social media star has been accused of digitally “catfishing” their audience.
In 2019, a Chinese influencer known as “Your Highness Qiao Biluo” shocked followers when a midstream glitch revealed she was a middle-aged woman, not the young beauty fans believed her to be.
Enhancing one’s appearance is easier than ever in the social media era. Several years ago, TikTok users criticized the platform’s “Bold Glamour” AI filter for being so heavily altered that some called it “illegal.”
“I was happy with the way I looked until I tried this,” said one British influencer. “These filters have to stop.”
