Things you expect on a long flight: screaming baby, bad food, turbulence. Things you don’t expect on a long flight: gorgeous serenade from award-winning gospel choir.

Travelers on a KLM flight heading to Washington, D.C., from Amsterdam probably weren’t expecting much in the way of New Year’s Eve entertainment, but that was before they realized that the Virginia State University Gospel Chorale was among the manifest of passengers onboard. The award-winning group put on an impromptu performance for the plane’s passengers and staff, and the video was uploaded to YouTube and has gone viral, with more than 207,000 views in a little more than a week.

YouTube user G June 36 wrote of the video, “In times like now when it’s popular to be anti-Christ, videos like these restore a little bit of hope inside me. Thank you very much for sharing this.”

The chorale has become quite famous for its rich, emotional renditions of gospel classics. In August 2015 it won the Steve Harvey Neighborhood Awards Gospel Choir Competition in Atlanta, Ga. It was the first time a college has won the competition, according to a release by Virginia State University. The win earned the group $10,000.

In 2013, the group was a contestant on “America’s Got Talent,” and made it to the quarterfinal round.
