A Florida family couldn’t believe what their 6-year-old’s school did publicly shame her. Apparently, when the little girl had an “accident” in class, her teacher forced her to remove her pants and then sent her home on the school bus wearing nothing but a t-shirt and her underwear…
When the girl’s dad, Raymond McCurdy picked up his 6-year-old daughter from the bus stop, he couldn’t believe what cruel and unusual punishment the Palm Coast school of Belle Terre Elementary did to his little girl…
“She’s been through enough in her life already and she’s only 6,” Raymond McCurdy, the girl’s dad, told WKMG News.
The little girl opened up to her dad about her accident in class. She had apparently wet herself. She had even raised her hand and asked to be dismissed to the bathroom, but her teacher denied her that right and only responded once it was too late.
“She has medical issues and when she has to go she has to go,” he said.
When McCurdy picked up his girl from the bus on October 13, she was in tears. He had never seen the little girl so traumatized and embarrassed.
“I kind of lifted her shirt once we got in the car and noticed she was in panties and a T-shirt only, her soiled clothes in a bag,” he said.
The school claims to have given the girl a fresh change of underwear, but refused to give the girl any pants in the hopes she would learn her lesson and not have an accident in class again.
When McCurdy was the condition of his daughter, he immediately contacted the school’s assistant principal.
“We asked her why my daughter was sent home in just panties and a T-shirt and she begins to tell me, ‘We thought she had a long enough shirt to be able to put her on the school bus and send her home,’” McCurdy said.
The school’s excuse for what they did was lackluster…
“They make me send her to school in clothes to their expectations, why couldn’t you send my kid home in clothes to your expectations?” he said.
The school district claims to be investigating McCurdy’s complaint. Dad says he was contacted but suspects they aren’t going to let their unionized teacher to get in trouble…
15 out of 100 grade school children wet their pants in class, according to a report published in The Journal of Urology.
When teachers don’t issue on-demand bathroom breaks, kids pee themselves. The children are too young to always make scheduled bathroom breaks and sometimes needed to be given permission to use the restroom.
Kindergarteners and first graders are still learning bladder control. The study suggests that restricted bathroom access should begin in the third grade when students are 8 or 9.
“They did WHAT!!!! This is unacceptable someone better be punished if not sued for public humiliation. This isn’t something that’s just going to go away this child will be haunted her whole entire life. They should’ve called the parents to come and get her,” Courtney Dery wrote.
Do you think the Florida elementary school failed? Or should the little girl learn to go to the bathroom at scheduled times?
