Known for his gravelly voice and raw stage presence, David fronted his band through the ups and downs of a turbulent career.
Signed to Geffen Records in 1988, Junkyard released their self-titled debut the next year, featuring standout tracks like “Hollywood” and “Simple Man.”
They became staples of the late 1980s Sunset Strip scene in Los Angeles, sharing the stage with acts like Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, Poison, and Ratt.
In 1992, Geffen dropped the band, and they soon disbanded.
A third album, recorded but never officially released, eventually surfaced in 1998 under the titles XXX and The Joker.
Junkyard reunited in 2000 and went on to release several live and studio albums, including 2003’s Tried and True and 2017’s comeback record High Water.
Their latest release was the single “Lifer” in 2021.
The band also toured with Lynyrd Skynyrd and were frequent guests on MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball.
