The first plight of life for a baby sea turtle comes immediately after hatching. Appropriately called “hatchlings,” the babies must make the treacherous trek towards the water while avoiding a whole slew of predators and obstacles. Experts estimate that only one out of a thousand hatchlings will survive to adulthood. Once hatched, the babies will wait for the temperature to cool, indicating nighttime when there will be less predators. Then they make a run for it. Reaching the water is only half the journey. After that, they enter a stage known as the “swimming frenzy” where they move away from coasts and more dangerous waters.

When Matthew turned on his video camera to record an extraordinary sunset in Mexico, he had no idea that he would catch a migration on camera. Once the sand began to move, he and his friends knew they were witnessing something special.

Check out the video below to watch this magnificent migration. You’ll also get a glimpse of a beautiful sunset. Let us know what you thought about this clip in the comments section or on Facebook. Share this video if you thought it was as awesome as we did.
