This story has an adorable twist. Animal rescue volunteer, Nicki Clawson, never expected something like this to happen to her.

Nicki Clawson volunteers as a foster mom for homeless dogs through NorthWest Boxer Rescue. One dog that she was fostering, named Cookie, made a big imprint on Nicki’s heart. Nicki fell in love with the sweet Boxer and really enjoyed fostering her.

Staff at NorthWest Boxer Rescue knew that Nicki was a perfect fit for Cookie. Instead of adopting her out to a new home, they really wanted her to stay with Nicki. But they decided to break this news to her in heartwarming fashion.

Nicki loved the dog and wanted what was best for him. She loved him and didn’t want to give him up, but knew that there was a family who really wanted him and would give him a forever home.
Tim, Nicki’s husband, along with Area Coordinator Jessica, worked up the perfect plan to make sure that Nicki would be the one to adopt the dog.

Nicki was scheduled for an appointment for a meet-and-greet with the potential adopter. She brought the dog to the location at the allotted time, but was disappointed that the adopter never showed up.

She was told to call the person to see if they were coming. When she looked at the paper and saw her own phone number as the adopter, she was initially confused. When she realized what they did, she broke down in tears.

Nicki couldn’t believe it, but her family was saying it was true. She was meant to have this dog in her life forever.
She hugged and kissed Cookie as the tears streamed down her face. She was beyond happy to get to adopt Cookie.

It’s been three years since Nicki officially adopted Cookie, and they are still loving life together! Cookie even has another doggy sibling who she loves to snuggle with. Cookie is one lucky pup to have such a loving family, and Nicki is one lucky human to have such a sweet dog!

NorthWest Boxer Rescue sent this touching update: “We are happy to report that Cookie is still very much loved by Nicki and an important part of their family three years later.”

Being in a shelter can be very stressful for dogs. Fostering is very important because it not only gets the dog out of that stressful environment, but it also allows the dogs to feel what it’s like to be a pet, and it helps them break out of their shell and show their true personality.

This will help them find their forever homes quicker. Consider fostering to help a pup like Cookie. And if you’re looking to get a dog, you should adopt and not shop!
