Harrison Ford did not mince his words when he addressed people thinking he may have a social anxiety disorder.
Harrison Ford is known for starring in one of the most successful movie franchises of all time. He has created an immensely successful career for himself, pursued his hobbies and passions to the fullest extent and started a beautiful family along the way. He has starred in a plethora of great films, earned his pilot’s license and has advocated as an environmentalist. Ford has been married a few times and has a few children, biological and adopted. While he is very well known in the land of Hollywood, Ford has managed to keep his personal life, especially the lives of his children, pretty under wraps.
Ford was born July 13, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. He lived humbly and graduated from Maine East High School in Park Ridge, Illinois, in 1960. He began pursuing his love for the entertainment industry during this time, working with the school’s radio station WMTH. Ford was the first student to voice a broadcast on the station as well as being its first sportscaster.
He went on to pursue a degree in philosophy at Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin. Ford was known for being shy, so he looked for activities to help push him out of his comfort zone. He was also a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. He took a risk and engaged in his first drama class in the last semester of his senior year. This is what led to Ford’s fascination with acting. He decided to travel to Los Angeles, California, to try to get a radio voiceover job. He wasn’t successful but stayed in the state in hopes of pursuing a career in the entertainment industry.

In January 2023, Ford officially returned to the acting scene with Apple TV+ original series “Shrinking,” where he co-starred alongside Jason Segel.
Ford, who played the role of a therapist in the show, got candid during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on various topics, including the subject of therapy. While Ford admitted that he isn’t anti-therapy, he said it’s something that he would take part in as he said he knows who he is.
“My opinion is not of the profession, it’s of the practitioner. There are all kinds of therapy. I’m sure many of them are useful to many people. I’m not anti-therapy for anybody — except for myself. I know who the f*** I am at this point,” he said.
Ford also said that his latest show hit close to home, admitting that he found some parts of the story relatable, although he did not disclose more details.
“I’m not sure I want to talk to you about that,” he said. “There are family issues that were relatable to me, OK? I’ve got five kids. This guy’s got a daughter he doesn’t see very often and an ex-wife. There are issues with his family — which are not the same issues I have with my family. But there are things we worked our way through, so I found an emotional reality to attend to,” he added.
When asked about the speculations of his fans who diagnosed that he may have a social anxiety disorder judging by his shyness in social appearances, Ford was quick to dismiss them.

“S***. That sounds like something a psychiatrist would say, not a casual observer. No. I don’t have a social anxiety disorder. I have an abhorrence of boring situations. I was shy when I first went onstage — I wasn’t shy, I was f***ing terrified. My knees would shake so badly, you could see it from the back of the theater,” he said.
“But that’s not social anxiety. That’s being unfamiliar with the territory,” he added. “I was able to talk myself through that and then enjoy the experience of being onstage and telling a story with collaborators.”
In the same interview, Ford was asked if thinks he would ever get an Oscar or if he ever cared about the idea of getting an Oscar despite him having a string of successful films under his belt. To which Ford answered with a shake of his head.
For Ford, he said he would be filled with gratitude should he ever get an Oscar in his lifetime. Then again, he made it clear that he’s not campaigning for it.
“If I did a movie that had Oscar ambition, that was an Oscar-type movie, then yeah, I’d want the film to be recognized for its quality. If I were given an Oscar, I would be grateful and appropriate. I’m trying to artfully skirt this — I don’t want to campaign for it,” he remarked.
