Having bed bugs in your room can be a real disaster, not only for you and your skin but the bugs might crawl into your clothing and luggage and then infect your house, costing you thousands of dollars to have them removed.
This not at all an uncommon problem, and has easy ways to prevent it from happening with a little background knowledge.
In a video posted by the University Of Maine, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension shows how to check your hotel room for bedbugs to make sure you, your loved ones, and your home is safe.
The first step to staying clear from bedbugs is to make sure they don’t get into your luggage! When people come into a hotel room, they typically put their luggage on the bed.
This is not the right thing to do, instead go put your bags in the bathtub, where there are definitely no bugs.
Now it’s time to go actually check for the bugs in the room. Check behind the bed backboards, creases, corners, and then along mattress.
Check along the ridge of the mattress. Bugs love to hide in the corner of that mattress lining. Also check the mattress pad for blood spots which will indicate if the bugs have been feeding.
Check the dressers and cabinets along the corners. Bed bugs are sneaky and can usually find very secretive places to hide. They typically do not stray further than 20 feet from their host though, so checking your one room should be sufficient.
After checking the luggage rack for the bugs, you should be in the clear. If you find a bug, make sure to tell the hotel head and move to another room.
