Former CNN anchor Don Lemon has come under fire for calling conservative commentator Megyn Kelly “trans.”
“I think she looks trans,” Lemon — who has previously spoken out against transphobia — said on a recent episode of his podcast Clip Farmers, while crudely discussing the appearances of “MAGA ladies.”
Former CNN host Don Lemon has faced backlash for calling Megyn Kelly “trans.”
“Looks clockable,” the left-leaning ex-anchor added, using a term often applied to trans people who are not perceived as “passing.”
“Let’s end on that note,” his co-host awkwardly interjected as the clip, which quickly circulated online, came to a close.
Critics were quick to condemn Lemon, pointing out the irony of him using “trans” as an insult despite his history of speaking out against transphobia.
Lemon’s remarks quickly sparked criticism on social media, with many accusing the openly gay journalist of hypocrisy for using “trans” as an insult.
“For a man who praises trans people, #DonLemon sure feels comfortable using trans as an insult,” tweeted Jeff Varner.
“The Left is using ‘Trans’ as an insult now?” another user asked.
“Hypocrisy at its finest. When it’s convenient, principles fly out the window,” added a third.
