Jordan Smith received a standing ovation from all four coaches during season 9 of The Voice when he performed Selah’s “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”

Since auditioning with Sia’s “Chandelier,” Smith quickly became one of the contestants to look out for. His impeccable rendition of Adele’s hit “Set Fire to the Rain,” for example, even had his opponent nodding in approval along with the coaches.

It was no different when he sang the gospel song. The Kentucky native performed without a band as his coach Adam Levine recommended  and he nailed it. Smith opened the song in a capella before he started playing the piano at about 45 seconds in. By the end of the tune, he also showed off his vocal chops by belting some long notes and hitting a beautiful high note.

“Sometimes there’s so much about the world that’s so confusing and so sad and then you come along and make us feel like there’s a lot of hope,” Levine told him.

Pharrell, who said he leaped from his seat during the middle of the performance, even encouraged viewers to head to iTunes to buy Smith’s version of the song. Many took his advice, since the song soared on the iTunes charts.
