Vice President Kamala Harris revealed that former President Joe Biden sent her call to voicemail after she reached out following reports that he was undergoing radiation treatment.
“I called him earlier,” Harris said during an interview on MSNBC’s The Weekend that aired Sunday. “I haven’t spoken with him yet — I just left a message after hearing the news.”

“I have not talked to him,” Harris said. “I just left him a message after I heard the news.”
Harris added, “I think Joe Biden is a fighter, and that is what I told him. He’s going to fight this, and we’re going to hold him up and pray for his recovery, his strength, and his family.”
Her comments come just weeks after the release of her memoir, 107 Days, which recounts her brief 2024 presidential campaign and candid reflections on Biden. In the book, she criticizes his decision to seek reelection, calling it “recklessness.”

Harris also recalled that Biden had badgered her shortly before her debate against President Trump, accusing her of speaking negatively about him to donors.
During her interview with MSNBC, Harris said she has spoken with Biden about her new memoir but declined to share details of their conversation.
“I’m not going to tell you,” she said with a grin when asked.
Biden’s office announced Saturday that he is undergoing radiation therapy, in addition to the hormone medication he had already been taking. The treatment is expected to last five weeks.
According to his team, the 46th president is “doing well.”
Biden announced in May that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had metastasized to his bones. In August, he underwent surgery to remove skin cancer from his forehead and was seen publicly with a large bandage.
Since leaving the White House, the former president has maintained a relatively low profile and has largely stayed silent on the Democratic post-mortems of the 2024 election. Harris, meanwhile, gave no indication of how her relationship with Biden has fared following the release of her memoir.
Biden has also reportedly clashed with other Democratic figures, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and others involved in the 2024 primary challenges that contributed to his decision to drop out of the race.
During her brief campaign as the Democratic presidential nominee, Harris had refrained from publicly criticizing Biden, but in the wake of her book, she has joined other Democrats in questioning his decision to seek reelection.
At the same time, Harris has continued to take aim at former President Trump. In her MSNBC interview, she offered reluctant praise for the peace agreement brokered between Israel and Hamas under Trump’s administration.
“I don’t think that we should withhold credit where it’s due,” she said. “I really do hope the deal becomes real, that the hostages are released, and that Gaza is no longer being subjected to such brutality and that aid can get through.”
“I commend the people who have been part of this process — the Qataris, the Egyptians, and the president.”
