Parents and students at Los Angeles’ Baldwin Hills Elementary School experienced a night filled with nostalgia, pizzazz and adorable dance moves during the school’s Sights and Sounds of Motown tribute last year. The event was filled with a variety of unique routines, colorful costumes and original choreography taught by Baldwin Hills teacher Malinda Williams.

The vibrant production was a collective effort from school staff and community members with some parents even helping design the costumes, as reported on the elementary school’s website. Williams uploaded footage from the memorable night onto social media, where it has caught the attention of thousands. The following video is one of the most-watched performances from the school’s Motown tribute.

The video features a mini version of the Jackon 5 clad in royal blue and wigs, performing the classic song “I Want You Back.” The audience erupts into praise the second the opening beat of the song resounds throughout the venue.

According to the Huffington Post, Williams teaches several grades at Baldwin Hills; however, it’s unclear what range of grades participated in the Motown tribute. The school’s site contains pictures of the event and rehearsals leading up to it. One look at the final production speaks volumes about the effort that Williams poured into the tribute. For an event that we hope won’t be the last, Williams and the school’s community transformed the school into a performing arts dance studio.

The Sights and Sounds of Motown tribute is still receiving buzz on social media and abroad in addition to other dances choreographed by Williams. Williams’ recent post to her Facebook page announced that two of her dances were chosen to be a part of the annual Taste of Soul event in Los Angeles.
