The wife of Lufthansa’s billionaire CEO fatally struck a babysitter while vacationing in Sardinia, then returned to Germany amid an ongoing investigation into vehicular homicide, reports say.
Vivian Alexandra Spohr, 51 — spouse of CEO Carsten Spohr — was driving a BMW X5 on Tuesday afternoon when she hit 24-year-old Gaia Costa on a pedestrian crosswalk in the upscale resort town of Porto Cervo, according to Corriere News.
Witnesses say Spohr initially continued driving but stopped after bystanders signaled her to pull over. She was reportedly so shaken by the incident that she fainted, Italien News reported
Vivian Alexandra Spohr, 51, is the wife of Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr.
Spohr was officially named as a suspect in an involuntary manslaughter investigation — but the mother of two had already returned to her home in Berlin, Germany, according to reports.
However, she was not legally obligated to stay on the Italian island and has pledged full cooperation, her attorney said.
“Vivian Spohr, who was involved in this tragic incident, expresses her dismay and deep regret over the very serious accident,” attorney Angelo Merlini told La Repubblica.
“She has made herself fully available to the judicial authorities for the necessary investigations and, while aware that such a profound personal loss cannot be undone, is committed to taking steps to mitigate the consequences.”
The CEO’s wife tested negative for alcohol and drugs, according to reports, which also stated that investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and Spohr’s phone records to determine whether she was distracted at the time.
Italian prosecutors and Lufthansa did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
Carsten Spohr, 58, and his wife have two daughters.
