Back in 2009, a shocking story about a pure breed pit bull took the world by storm. In Grand Rapids, Michigan, a man was thrown in jail on home invasion and domestic violence charges after brutally beating his estranged wife.
But the unlikely hero of this story is a pit bull named Blitz who witnessed the horrifying scene from screen door — as the terrified woman was beaten and dragged across the street.
As soon as Blitz saw what was going on outside his house, the two-year-old, 100-something pound canine hero jumped into action.
Just as his mom was heading off to bed, she noticed Blitz dart outside as the woman screamed, “Help me!” Blitz ran straight towards her attacker.
Although Blitz never bit the attacker, he scared and distracted him just enough to get him to loosen his grip on the woman. She then picked herself off the ground and ran with Blitz’s back into his apartment where she called the police.
Police arrived at the scene and the woman was saved.
Blitz’s mom, who remains anonymous, shared her story in the hopes it would help reduce the stigma attached to the bully breed. She told reporters Blitz is “great with my kids, he’s just wonderful.”
