Steve Biro had taken hundreds of photos a bald eagle named Bruce, but there was one that stood out from the crowd.

“He’s squared up perfectly, both wings are touching the water,” he told the BBC. “That [photograph] was the one that struck me as little more special than the others.”

That photo has now gone viral.

Biro, who began taking photographs as a hobby 10 years ago, was visiting Ontario’s Canadian Raptor Conservancy when he encountered Bruce the bald eagle.

“He’s really awesome and fairly well behaved but also has a mind of his own too,” he told the ABC.

Biro set up his camera with the intentions of snapping a photo of the bird of prey flying over the water. It was at this point he noticed Bruce was not happy with Biro’s perch.

“He was actually trying to brush me away from where I was perched,” he told the BBC. “I could feel the breeze from his wings as he flew over me. The other people who were there were gasping as he came over my head. It was really quite exhilarating.”

Biro snapped away as Bruce passed over. The end result was spectacular.

“I knew it was a great image when I saw how balanced it was but never in my wildest dreams did I expect anything of this magnitude.”

Biro’s breathtaking image of Bruce the bald eagle has since been shared countless times, including on the front page of Reddit.

“It warms my heart to know I might bring joy to people who may not even be able to leave the house and that they love to see the world through my eyes.”
