When an elementary school girl decided to shave her head to support her friend dealing with a cancer diagnosis and treatment, her school reacted by suspending her. Because she lost her educational privileges for showing compassion for a friend in need, millions of people around the country banded together to tell the school to let her back. And because of the effort from people like you on Facebook and other forms of social media, the school listened. And now this girl has learned a valuable lesson in the power of love.

In the ABC News report with Diane Sawyer, you’ll hear what happened after a little girl was suspended for showing bravery and compassion. Although shaving her head broke school rules, America showed the strict educational institution that the small transgression was outweighed by the girl’s kindness and love…

Delaney Clements got her cancer diagnosis in 2011. She experienced relapse after relapse and lost her hair again and again to the harsh chemotherapy treatment. But Kamryn Renfro, who was Delaney’s best friend, refused to let the girl be bald alone one more time.

“I didn’t want her to be the only one,” Kamryn said in the video below. So, she decided to be brave and shave her head. Because she did, Kamryn found some unexpected pushback.

Although most people would think that a school of all places would support Kamryn’s act of kindness, they immediately suspended the 9-year-old girl for breaking the no-shaved-heads rule that is part of the Colorado’s school’s dress code.

But when Kamryn’s mom wrote about the horrible act on Facebook, a firestorm erupted. People wrote comments about the school’s unthinking crime and even called the school district to complain.

As a result, the school was forced to recant the girl’s suspension. They allowed her back into class and shared a press release that read, “Compassion and selfless acts of courage are to be commended and encouraged…

“The Caprock Academy Board of Directors held a special meeting tonight to discuss a waiver to the dress code policy per the parents’ request. The Caprock Academy Board of Directors voted to approve the waiver to the dress code policy.”

Watch the rest of the video report to learn even more about Kamryn and Delaney’s lasting friendship.

When the news reached YouTube, millions watched and thousands shared comments, including the following popular ones from viewers like you:

“It’s disgusting that the only reason they reversed the suspension is only because of media outcry.  The only thing the staff are sorry for is that they’ve been exposed,” wrote supercyberfunk.

“My question is- why are shaved heads banned? That’s kind of dumb. It’s like that girl who got in trouble and suspended from her team when she offered to drive her drunk friend home from a party. She never drank, and she was trying to be responsible, but the school punished her for being at the party, even if it was only to pick up her friend and take her home,” wrote Rebecca Birch.

What do you think about the school suspending the girl for shaving her head?
