In most parts of the world, we expect animals to keep to themselves and stay off our roads, but every once in a while we get a wild surprise.

However, many Asian countries are not like the rest of the world and many animals are free to roam as they please. The city of Nara, Japan, however, is one very extreme example! The spotted deer population in Nara is completely overwhelming and as you’ll see in this next video, it’s become quite a problem for the commuters there. Packed in with the bicycles, tiny cars and electric vehicles, a humongous pack of deer makes its presence felt in an extreme way.

The reason they travel to the city’s center? Probably food, but it could also be according to a local legend that the god Takemikazuchi arrived in Nara on a white deer to guard the newly built capital of Heijo-kyo. As a result, they’re considered holy animals, protectors of the emperor and the country and nobody dares to touch them.

This is one video you have to see to believe. Can you imagine if your hometown was overrun by Bambi?! It’s just out of control!
