Belissa Escobedo, Rhiannon McGavin, and Zariya Allen are three incredible young women determined to change the world, one word at a time.

These outspoken, brave girls are part of Get Lit, “the leading nonprofit presenter of literary performance, education, and teen poetry programs in Southern California,” according to their website.

The remarkable young girls were featured on the Queen Latifah Show to perform a slam poetry piece called “Somewhere in America,” and as you will see, their powerful words strike up many emotions in just a few seconds.

The trio starts out explaining that some of the most unforgettable lessons students will learn in the classroom are unintentional ones. Spoiler alert: they are not talking about anything pretty. However, they ARE speaking the truth…and many times that’s hard to hear. What they say in only 3.5 minutes brought me to tears and I hope it will move you as well.

Somewhere in America, there is hope…and it’s all because of brave and brilliant young people like these three.
