But composting isn’t the only way to use your leftover food in an environmentally friendly way.

In this video, Cobi shows you how to use food scraps to create a vegetable garden. Not only will you have a better way to use your leftovers, you’ll be able to bite into fresh vegetables in the future. We all know how much better home-grown tomatoes taste.
Throughout the video, watch how to take pineapple, onion, and celery scraps and start a vegetable garden.
Codi begins her demo with the pineapple. She removes the bottom leaves and cleans off the stub. Then she puts it in a glass of water for a few weeks. When the roots grow, you plant it. In a year and a half, you can harvest fresh pineapples from your yard!
How about celery? Just cut a 3-inch chunk off the bottom and place it in water. After a few days, you can plant the sprouting vegetable.
If you want to plant ginger, pick a root with lots of nubs. Then plant the root with the nubs facing upwards. If you grow it in a pot, you can harvest your ginger in 4-6 months.
When you watch, you’ll also learn to grow garlic, green onions, and round onions.
