Paramedics eventually pull over and let the panting dog have a rest inside the ambulance

Heart-warming footage has emerged showing a loyal dog chasing an ambulance as it carries his owner to hospital.

Filmed by a paramedic from the window of the ambulance, the video released over the weekend shows the small, scruffy dog pelting alongside the red vehicle, with unrelenting devotion.

The dog’s owner, who is a homeless man, had suffered an epileptic seizure. The hospital has not been able to comment on the outcome of the man’s hospital stay and whether he recovered to leave with his pet.

In the video, Celiomar Ferreira do Couto, the paramedic who made the video, is heard asking his colleague “doesn’t he [the dog] get tired?” before jokingly yelling: “Go home. Go and have a rest, give up.”

Paramedics soon stop the ambulance, and let the panting creature hop aboard and sit beside its owner.

Mr Couto said his colleagues were touched by the love shown by the dog for its owner.

He explained that pets are often shy and run away from the emergency crew

“I’ve been doing this job for 19 years and I’ve never seen anything like it,” Mr Couto told Mail Online.

When the ill man is removed from the ambulance in the video, the dog is shown waiting patiently by the stretcher.

“Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find out what happened to the pet and its owner, but it has certainly given me faith in the loyalty and love that exists between owners and their dogs,” said Mr Couto.
