Whiskey can help relieve cold symptoms

Although having the cold can be a nightmare, it’s even worse that there is no real cure that truly helps you overcome it completely.

What might be surprising is that a little sip of whiskey can actually relieve those dreadful symptoms of a cold.

The best recipe to truly get you over that horrible cold is a small mix of honey, freshly squeezed lem juice, hot water and a few drops of whiskey. The hot water helps the mixture combine together and the honey to melt completely. It also helps with congestion in the nose, throat and chest.

As for the whiskey, it can help with all that sniffling that goes on when you have a cold. “The alcohol dilates blood vessels a little bit, and that makes it easier for your mucus membranes to deal with the infection,” Dr. William Schaffner, chair of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, told ABC News.

BUT, before you go ordering 10 Manhattans from the pub, know that having too much alcohol will never make you feel or get better. The cold recipe uses a few drops of whiskey and not so much that it would equate to what some would consume in a wild night out. Having too much can in fact make you feel even worse as you will also feel thirsty. Having a cold already puts you in a crap mood, make sure you don’t end up having to put your body through a hangover too!
