The wild animal world can be downright brutal.

Animals have to eat to survive, after all, but they must also protect their own if their species is to survive.

As you’ll see on any nature channel, it’s a constant tug-of-war between life and death, which can be both vicious and beautiful.

Thankfully, this story falls into the latter category.

A black snake stumbled upon what it thought would be a good meal:

A nest of helpless baby rabbits.

Obviously, the newborn bunnies had no way of protecting themselves and it looked like that brutal food chain was coming into play.

But the snake hadn’t counted on one thing…

The furious mother finds the snake attacking her babies and instantly reacts; she leaps in out of nowhere and the battle begins!

It wasn’t going to be an easy defense, though. The snake initially has no intention of releasing its prey.

The mother rabbit continues to battle, even biting the snake at one point. Then the snake turns its attention to mama, which rattles her for a second.

But only a second.

She fights back and lunges at the offending reptile, and then things get dicey as the epic confrontation continues.

After all, the mama rabbit could very easily have become a meal herself!

But she never quit and in the end, the snake slithers away, hungry and beaten. And another mother has saved her babies!

In all walks of life, the following adage remains true:

Don’t mess with Mama!
