A 2013 report published by the financial website Mint estimates that a woman will spend roughly $15,000 on makeup during her lifetime. The same report estimates that four out of five women wear cosmetics and that those four women shop for makeup at least five times a year. You can see where this is going – beauty products are costly. Some women want to wear makeup but spend less on it, which of course makes sense. In the video below, beauty blogger Keren guides the viewer through a step-by-step process of making one common cosmetic item at home.

Keren’s technique is intriguing. Above a lit candle, she melts a mixture of shea butter, olive oil, and a red crayon. The end result is a cost-effective and lovely lip butter. Once Keren applies the product to her lips, you can see how well it worked. Obviously, you can customize your shade with any color crayon you like to get the desired effect that you’re looking for. This is a great tip for someone who’s looking to save a few bucks on cosmetics or for those of you that enjoy home experiments.

Will you try this at home? If you do, be sure to leave us a comment and let us know how it worked. Share this with your friends and family if you think they’ll find it useful like we did.
