As if we didn’t have enough to worry about, now we have to worry about people offering candy to our children! Seriously, though, this story is scary and it’s a good reminder to always be aware of who is around you and interacting with your children. Stranger danger!
Amanda Kalidy was shopping in Target with her small daughter Jenna, and at first was just mildly annoyed when an older girl kept approaching her daughter. The girl seemed around nine years old. Amanda tried to tell the girl not to offer candy to Jenna, but the older girl was persistent.
What happened next is the stuff nightmares are made of.

We’ll let Amanda explain:
“She got upset with me and as I went to check out she came up again trying to get Jenna to take some gum. I looked over and a man was across the store signaling to her. I told the cashier and he called the manager, which then they both bolted and got into a van.”

That’s when Amanda realized something really bad had almost happened. If she hadn’t been so observant, she might never had known that this girl was being directed by an adult, and worse, they might have taken Jenna. The sad thing is that the older girl was a victim, too, but she and the man who was with her were never found.
The police say that it could have been an attempt to steal Amanda’s purse or car keys, but there’s just no way of knowing what the plan had been. It is clear, though, that they were up to no good.

Amanda ended her message with this thought, “Please be careful and always watch your kids!” Good advice, always.
