Arecent Pew Research Center report showed an unfortunate truth — “only 29% of Americans rated their country’s K-12 education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics … as above average or best in the world.” While gut feelings aren’t always on point, the actual numbers seem to back up the sinking feelings that the majority of Americans associated with the state of our education system. Our lag behind other developed countries is more pronounced in math than in science, but the fact is, we’re not close to the top in either subject.

Japanese students score far better on math tests than students in the United States, and while there are likely many variables contributing to this, you can’t help but wonder if it has something to do with what’s in the clip below. If you’re a math tutor, you might want to keep this one in your tool belt.
