There are few things as gut-wrenching and stomach-churning as seeing an animal that has been neglected or even abused. It breaks my heart seeing these poor dogs, cats, and other animals in such a terrible state. They lack the means of communication we have to ask for help on their own.
That’s why we so desperately need rescue organizations and shelters. It’s thanks to the kind, generous people who run these shelters that dogs like Daisy who were once deemed “unadoptable” can be given a second chance at life.
Recently, I came across the story of Sury the shih tzu and her dramatic transformation from a neglected, dirty, matted ball-of-fur into an adorable pup ready for a new home is truly astounding.
I wanted to share Sury’s story as a reminder that any dog, no matter what they may look like at first, should have the opportunity to find their forever home. It just takes some, love, care and a little bit of time dedicated to grooming.

When the Jasper County Animal Rescue League discovered Sury, she was covered in fleas and several cockroaches had used her matted fur as a nest.
The rescue league believes she is about 10 years old, but she appears to have been neglected for many, many months.
Shockingly, Sury was dumped outside the shelter in her cage. Her food was molded, and she had several ear and eye infections.
The league actually named her Sury as an abbreviation of “Survivor.”
